Free At-Home Businesses That Are Really Free

You probably don’t believe there are really any opportunities for a free at home business when you think about starting a business. Well, the good news is that you’re wrong! Ideas for free at home work are everywhere-if you know where to look.

And the first thing you should take a look at is what do you like to do. Love to mow lawns and trim shrubbery? Own a lawnmower? Bingo! You now have one of your own free at home businesses. A great place to look for places to put your expertise to work is in your own neighborhood for free at home jobs. Ask your neighbors if they need a helping hand with their lawn care. Next, ask them for referrals. This is a business that can grow more quickly than you ever imagined-especially if you do leaf and snow removal during the off-season months.

Now, do you have a computer? Great. You now have one of your own free at home businesses. You can do anything from typing for companies in your area to writing ad copy for companies in Japan. Do a quick Google search, and you’ll be blown away by all the opportunities available for your free at home businesses.

You can also get paid to do Internet research, answer surveys, and many, many other things with your free Internet home business. You might even mix and match your online jobs to add some diversity to your daily routine. Probably the easiest free at home work would be answering surveys. This is something you can do in your spare time. I know, I do online surveys myself.

You can also catch one of the hottest trends around if you choose online auctions as one of your free stay at home businesses. Not only can you get rid of things around the house that you no longer need or use, you can sign up with wholesalers and distributors and sell products for them.

Many of these charge nothing for you to do this, and some will even do all the shipping and handling for you. This type of stay at home business can require a lot of work at first, but is usually easy to run once you get it going. And the profits can be, and often are, tremendous.

No matter what sort of free stay at home businesses you’re considering, you need a business plan. And you need to follow it. Find out everything you can about the business you want to start and what the competition in your area is up to. You’ll also want to check into any special licenses or permits you might need. Some other things to put on your list of things to look into are:

  • Need for the service/ business in your area
  • Zoning regulations
  • Accounting needs
  • Hiring needs
  • When and how to incorporate if you decide you want to
  • Equipment or items needed for your business
  • Amount and quality of competition
  • Tax information

Another major thing to consider when starting a free stay at home business is your family. Because having an at home business of any kind will impact your family members. They need to be supportive and understand that even though you’re home, you’re actually working. They need to be respectful of this, and in return, you need to be respectful of their feelings. This way you can be successful at one of the free at home businesses you have chosen.

So be smart, and talk about the effects having a home business will have on your family before you open up shop. Kick things around with each other, and make sure everyone’s on board. This can save you major headaches down the road. As well as ensure you have the support you need when starting and running your stay at home business.

Starting your own free stay at home business is an exciting adventure. Just don’t let your enthusiasm and eagerness distract you from attending to all the little things that make free at home businesses successful. Because, after all, that’s the goal of any stay at home business-to be successful.

Should You Take Your Laptop On Vacation?

Do you take your laptop on vacation? Do you sometimes “hate” your cell phone or your Blackberry? Harris Interactive recently reported that one-third of vacationers take their laptops on vacation. During a Sunday meal at a restaurant recently, I observed a man sitting with his family talking on his cell phone — obviously about business. He was not happy – neither was his family!

To paraphrase Charles Dickens, “It is the best of times. It is the worst of times.” Certainly that applies when it comes to “connectivity.” Stories of 9-11 victims being able to communicate with family members in the last minutes of their lives warmed my heart, while the story my friend told of her mother answering her cell phone in the delivery room during the birth of her grandchild chilled my soul.

How grateful I was for my cell phone when I came across a young woman stalled on an interstate without one, and I could immediately get help. How convenient it is on vacation to use the Internet to explore the options for entertainment in the area on a rainy afternoon, and get directions to find it easily. How comforting to know that my family can reach me in case of an emergency – or something to celebrate! — regardless of where I am in the world. The same can be said for my colleagues.

So here’s the question: Should you take your laptop on vacation? Should your cell phone be on 24/7? Clients often ask, “What should I do?” My answer: “That’s the wrong question. The question is “What will you do?” Maybe an even better question would be “What would you like to do?” Perhaps the best question of all is “What action will bring you the best results?” In order to answer that question, you have to take the time to answer “What ARE your best results?”

Repeatedly I have emphasized that one definition of “organization” is “controlling the things you can control, so you can cope with the things you can’t.” In the complex world in which we live, especially with the level of connectivity available, it’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling that we are victims of other people. I cringe when someone complains about having to answer their cell phone. Says who? If you don’t want to be reached, you can “power off.” If you have to be reachable because your job requires it, then the question may be “Am I in the right job?” Or, have you simply trained people that you are “always available.” Customer service is great, but it doesn’t require 24/7 response. It requires good communication. It’s highly frustrating to leave a message and get no response for days, but few situations would suffer if the response came one hour later so you could have lunch with a colleague without interruption.

Connectivity can be addictive. My daughter, who has her PhD in counseling, reminded me that an addiction is something that reduces the quality of your life and the people around you.

So what does all this have to do with productivity? My passion is helping individuals and organizations create and sustain a productive environment so everyone can accomplish their work and enjoy their lives. When used appropriately, connectivity does help you accomplish your work and enable you to play. It can also undermine your priorities at work, destroy your health, and poison your relationships when used inappropriately.

The issue is not whether you take your laptop on vacation or leave your cell phone on 24/7. For some people, the ability to check e-mail once a day on vacation brings peace of mind and can be done when others are sleeping or swimming. For others, the whole idea of a vacation is not taking your laptop. There is no “right” or “wrong.” The question is whether your choice is enhancing or diminishing your life and the lives of the people around you.

So “Power Off” or “Power On?” – it’s truly up to you!

P.S. SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: Your ability to make any connection more valuable is being able to find the information you need when you need it. Are you wasting valuable time looking for what you need? Could you find what other people in your office have if you needed it? If not, fill out our Productive Environment Scorecard, (www.ProductiveEnvironment.com) and we’ll give you a free 30-minute phone consultation to identify specific steps you can take to make sure that everyone in your organization is taking the right action at the right time with the right information.

How To Start Your Own Internet Home Based Business – Part 11

Hi, welcome back. Remember, this has been an on-going series of posts, a guide for anyone wanting to set up their own internet home based business. This is the final post in the series so if you have come in late and missed the earlier issues, you can pick them up from the archives. Each part of the series is numbered so it will be easy to follow the flow.

How to Set Up Your Internet Home Based Business on a Budget

You have now decided to set up your home based business on the internet but your budget is very small, so how can you get going?

Well this is the beauty of setting up and operating an internet home based business. The costs are considerably reduced compared to the traditional brick and mortar type business. This is because you do not actually need an office or separate premises… you can work from home. No need to employ others and all you need to get started is a good computer and good internet connection.

You could start off by looking for free domain names but I strongly advise against it. There are a few sites around that will register a domain for you at no charge. However, there is a catch with most of them in that they will set themselves up as the administrator for your domain and you will not have control of it. Some will transfer ownership to you after a set period of time, but usually for a fee.

Because there are so many companies around who are now selling domain names, the market has become quite competitive. You can pick up your own Dot com, dot net or dot org domain which are the most popular and business-wise domain extensions for as little as $9.95 right here.

There are plenty of places on the web today that will host your site for free. But before you get too excited about this prospect, it is important to remember that there is a drawback to be had from using such places. Most of these free host sites will place a banner at the top of your pages for allowing you to do this.

Web hosting has also become very competitive, both in price and in quality of service. Be very cautious, there are some very shoddy web hosts out there. It is imperative that you host your site with a hosting company that is going to provide you with top class service. Your online business is absolutely dependent on it. If you can get a good deal on price as well the top class service, well that is icing on the cake.

I have been very lucky. I landed on a hosting provider back in 2003 when I was setting up my very first web site that has given me excellent service through the years. Their hosting is good and fast. I have never had a problem with them. Whenever I have had a query, or needed help to set something up Sam, the owner, has answered my emails by return and where necessary helped me work through the project until it was completed. And you won’t beat their pricing! They have a choice of plans that will meet your requirements starting from $3.95/month. Check them out here. Besides the web hosting, they can also register your domain name and design you web site if you want.

As you can see, you need outlay very little to set up your internet home based business. However you should be aware that an internet business is subject to some problems that you do not get with a traditional business, such as hackers, viruses, websites going down and data preservation. Provided you take the necessary precautions and safeguards, and constantly back up your data these things should not be a problem for you.

What if you are someone who does not have their own product to sell, but still wants to make money online? There are a number of solutions to that problem but the two most logical and easy to implement answers in my opinion are to become an affiliate marketer, which does not cost, or to purchase products with resale rights and on-sell them. We will look at both of these avenues along with ways and means of generating traffic to your site in future series. There is no point in you having a great product if nobody knows about it.

That brings to an end this series of posts on how to set up an internet home based business. I hope the information that I have provided for you over the past few days will help in setting you on your way to starting your first online business.

Good luck with your future online ventures!

How To Start Your Own Internet Home Based Business – Part 10

How Do You Go About Marketing Your Internet Home Based Business?

We are getting towards the end in this series so today we will look at various ways in which you can market your online business. The reason for marketing an internet home based business is in order to get that all important traffic to visit your site. This traffic consists of visitors, who will then become your customers and start purchasing your product or service from you.

The first thing you need to do is learn how to optimize your website so that it will start getting ranked in the top three search engines (Google, Yahoo and Bing (MSN). The sooner you do this the faster it will get ranked and the sooner the traffic will start to appear at it. A great way of doing this is by investing in either a book, E-book or Ecourse on how to optimize your site, or you could try some of the following methods instead. The best way in which you can optimize your website is by ensuring you have back links to your site. This is where you have links to your site placed on other sites through various different methods, such as…

Link Exchanges
This is where you exchange links with other websites that have complimentary products or services to your own. It will not only give you direct traffic from the link, but will help to increase your pursuit for getting ranked higher in search engines.

Write Articles
It is important that the articles you write are interesting and full of useful information regarding your niche. This is probably one of the best ways around for gaining more traffic to your website. Not only is it free, as there are many article sites around where you can have your articles published for free, but each article you have published will be providing a link back to your site. This means that you are helping to gain even higher rankings where search engines are concerned. When writing an article, you should always include information about you, the author (this will usually be in a resource box at the bottom of your article), and do not forget to include that all important link to your own website.

By distributing to numerous article sites, you are not only gaining traffic (as when someone sees it on there, they will click on your link if they like what they read), but also you get a link that points directly back to your site, which the search engines use to rank sites.

However, if you are someone who dislikes writing, then you could always look at using a ghostwriter. There are many sites around today who offer ghostwriting services, but when initially setting up your internet home based business, this may not be an expense that you want to incur.

Online Forums
When using these, do not forget to include your signature line at the end of any comments that you make, as this will then provide a further link back to your site. The best bet is to stick to forums that are on the same topic as what you are trying to sell. Not only will you be learning about your potential customer’s desires, but you’ll be able to establish yourself as an expert in the field.

Blogs
Besides making an excellent platform from which to operate your internet home based business, blogs are a great way of ensuring you get back links to your site. So why not start a blog on your website? But ensure that you post to your blog several times a week and think of it as news page for your site. Certainly blogging has become the in thing at the moment on the web. You only have to do a quick search to find out just how popular they are.

See you tomorrow when we will wrap up this series on how to start your own internet home based business.

How To Start Your Own Internet Home Based Business – Part 9

Hi, welcome back. Is Using an Online Payment System a Good Decision for my Internet Home Based Business?

There are many online payment services today which provide you with an alternative way to traditional payment methods. So unlike banks and credit card companies, services such as PayPal and CheckFree no longer require a business to have a merchant account. In fact, using services like this not only provides a quicker way for money to be paid online, but it is more secure than having someone sending you a check or cash. This is because the funds are electronically transferred to your account with them in order to settle any transaction made.

Such services have become especially popular among those who use online auction sites (such as Ebay), but also many other internet businesses are now beginning to see the advantages of these services as well. However, what is important to know is how they work, and how to avoid any potential problems that may arise.

Such services use a relatively simple process in order to transfer money from one person to another. What you need to do is set up an account providing enough information which should include your real name, email address and credit card or bank account details (which are used to verify your identity). Then, in order for someone to pay you, they enter your email address and the amount of the transaction in question. This is then paid into your account, and can either then be transferred to your bank account, or a check can be sent to you.

However, many of the payment services will charge a small fee in order to transfer funds. For example, PayPal charges you up to 2.5% for each transfer that they make (but this all depends on the amount). But what should be remembered is that these fees are probably less than what you would normally pay for a credit card merchant account. Also, such services can be especially helpful when you need to arrange for small repetitive payments to be made to your account, such as affiliate rewards and commissions.

But there are some drawbacks to be had from using a payment service, and these are as follows:-

1. Many of them impose a daily or weekly limit on the amount of money that you send or receive. So if you want to exceed these limits you may find yourself incurring an additional fee for a “business account” or “premiere account”.

2. These services are not banks, and therefore are not subject to strict banking regulations or protected by Federal Deposit Insurance.

3. Often these services provide their customers with less protection against fraud and abuse than many credit card companies offer.

4. Also, they are sometimes quick to freeze a customer’s account if they suspect fraudulent or other criminal activities are taking place. They can be so quick sometimes that some customers have found that their account has been frozen for no apparent reason whatsoever.

It is important that before you sign up to any payment service, you read through their terms and conditions thoroughly. Plus, also read through their terms of service agreement carefully. It is important that you fully understand and accept the service’s dispute policy, limits on liability, their fee structure and any other rules or regulations that they may have. It is also important that you do not keep too much money in your account, rather hold in it enough to conduct a few days of business and any unused funds should be transferred over to your regular bank account.

Below are just a few more payment services that you may want to look at further when setting up an online business account.

1.Authorize.net. This service processes credit card and checking account transactions.

2.BidPay. This allows person to person payments, in which they accept a credit card payment from the payer and then send a money order through to the payee.

3.BillPoint. This also allows person to person payments, but from a credit card. Originally this system was being targeted specifically at Ebay customers.

4.E-Gold. This allows the payment in gold (silver, platinum or palladium) to be made from one customer to another using an account based system.

5.PayPal. This is probably the most well known of payment services, and it allows user to user payments. This is where a payer uses a credit card to pay money into another user’s account. Or, in fact, they can use money they already have in that account in order to pay for the goods they have purchased.

6.World Pay. This service provides both an internet merchant account, and payment processing service in one package.

In our next post, Part 10 We’ll look at marketing your internet home based business.
